Syria pounds al-Qaida
LEBANON: Syrian air force jets pounded al-Qaida-linked militants in the Beqaa valley area yesterday in support of a Hezbollah offensive against them.
The strikes hit Hetesh positions near Ras Baalbek and Arsal, where gunman and suicide bombers recently attacked security forces at a refugee camp.
The Russian Defence Ministry said army Captain Nikolai Afanasov had been killed by terrorist mortar fire in Syria’s Hama province.
