Why did it take food watchdog four days to tell us about Russell Hume meat hygiene scandal?

The Government’s food safety watchdog has defended its decision to wait four days until it warned customers about hygiene issues it discovered at a meat supplier which produced steaks for restaurants including Wetherspoons and Jamie Oliver’s Italian.
The Food Standards Agency told Russell Hume to stop production on Friday, January 19, as the Derby-based supplier were “unable to demonstrate compliance with food hygiene rules at its locations” when inspectors visited on Friday, January 12.
