We need more have-a-go heroes to confront hate speech at Football matches

There used to be a newspaper term for a brave person who challenged criminal or anti-social behaviour – a ‘have-a-go hero.’
Sadly, for some the result of being labelled this way leads to injury, and in a few high-profile cases the hero pays for their courage with their life.
So when it comes to witnessing, or being the victim of discrimination at a football match, what should the average citizen do, without risking life and limb?
