Vince Cable ‘will stand down as Lib Dem leader to allow non-MP to succeed him’
 

Sir Vince Cable will stand down as Liberal Democrat leader and pave the way for a non-MP to succeed him, it has been claimed today.
The 75-year-old veteran has said he will contest a post-Brexit snap election next year if one was called but according to senior party sources he is set to announce he will step down before the next general election in 2022.
The Liberal Democrats currently have 12 MPs but Cable wants to broaden the field for a potential leader who is not an MP to come forward.
