Views of city centre street show how much it has changed over course of more than a century
 

Both of these photographs feature Leicester’s Causeway Lane in bygone days.
The top one was taken in 1938, when the site was being proposed for the location of a new swimming baths.
It shows the lane at its junction with Highcross Street.
The other photo, below, was taken further along the lane, at its junction with East Bond Street, towards the end of the 19th century.
It is with great foresight that the photographers of a century or so ago recorded seemingly everyday scenes so we have a visual record of how our towns and villages looked decades earlier.
