Unions dismiss government's 'pre-Budget gimmick' on transport

MINISTERS announced a £1.7 billion plan yesterday to improve transport links between city centres and struggling suburbs, but unions and Labour quickly dismissed it as a pre-Budget gimmick.
The Transforming Cities fund will spread wealth between the “northern powerhouse” and “Midlands engine,” according to the government, by improving connectivity, reducing congestion and introducing new mobility services and technology.
