The Ruth Ellis Files: A Very British Crime Story
9pm, BBC Four Investigative film-maker Gillian Pachter’s three-part series about the last woman to be hanged in Britain grates only in her insistence on using the words “I wanted to find out” roughly once a minute. Get past that and this is an absorbing and revealing account of the background to Ellis’s shooting of boyfriend David Blakely, unearthing documents and information ignored at the time.
