Three weeks of roadworks in Cumbria high street start today
 

Three weeks of roadworks in a Cumbria high street are due to begin today.
The scheme to upgrade Penrith's ageing gas pipes is being carried out by Northern Gas Networks (NGN) and will see the town's main shopping area shut off.
The work in Middlegate will see more than 100m of existing metal pipes upgraded as part of a three-week project.
Due to the location of the gas main, NGN says it needs to close the road at the junction of Cromwell Road and Middlegate for the duration of the project. Signed diversions will be in place.
