The horrific care home fire which claimed the lives of 11 men

For the 50 residents of Wensley Lodge it had been just another day with little to do and lots of time to do it in.
And as the night of Wednesday, January 5, 1977 approached the routine was exactly the same as always.
As they the men inside started to settle down for sleep, last-minute checks were made to ensure that all was in order in the Hessle home.
But it wasn’t and the following hours would see 11 men die in one of the worst fires in the Hull area for many years.
Inspections revealed smoke in a corridor, which it was discovered had come from bedroom 11.
