Tesla announces the Model Y compact SUV with a 2020 release date and no Back to the Future doors



Tesla has revealed its next electric vehicle at an event in California.
The all-electric Model Y is a compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) that combines elements of the company’s Model 3 and Model X. Sadly, there’s no Back to the Future gull-wing doors on this one.
In its ‘Long Range’ spec version, the Model Y will boast a 300 mile range on a single charge. Tesla says it’ll be launching in 2020 with the entry-level configuration starting at $47,000 (£35,500).
However, given Tesla’s staggered release schedule it’s likely we won’t see it here in the UK until at least 2022.
