Teacher banned from the profession after spending the night in a hotel with a pupil

A disgraced teacher has been banned from every classroom in England after spending a night in a hotel room with a pupil.
Christopher Houghton, who taught at St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College in Lanchester, County Durham, also exchanged text messages with the girl.
A disciplinary panel in Coventry heard Houghton initially denied the claims but later admitted that his actions were “sexually motivated”.
Houghton, 41, claimed the hotel visit in January last year was “spontaneous” but an investigation found the room had been booked a week earlier.
