Tata sells off its Hartlepool steelworks

INDIAN-OWNED Tata Steel has sold a steelworks in Hartlepool in north-east England, the company announced yesterday.
The site, which has been bought by steelmaker Liberty House, employs 140 workers and makes steel pipes for the oil and gas industries.
Trade unions welcomed the news of the sale, saying that it had ended a long period of uncertainty.
A separate steelworks at the site employing 270 workers will be retained by Tata, which pledged to invest £1 million there to improve production.
