'Sophisticated' cannabis farm discovered after man's Walker flat goes up in flames

Police discovered a man’s “sophisticated” cannabis farm after his Newcastle flat went up in flames.
John Armstrong had been secretly growing hundreds of plants at a property he rented on Birds Nest Road, in Walker, and had bypassed the electricity as a result.
But his drug-growing enterprise went up in smoke after a blaze broke out at the premises and his criminality was discovered by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.
