Remember the Beast from the East? This gritting team is already prepared for winter



Council gritting teams have revealed the true extent of the grip the Beast from the East had on the Retford area as they prepare for this winter.
Gritting teams in Nottinghamshire made an equivalent of 10 return trips to the South Pole last winter, thanks to the Siberian weather conditions which hit the country.
Drivers clocked up almost 300,000km in total - more than doubled the amount of runs to clear to the roads compared to the winter season of 2016/17.
They also used more than 25,000 tonnes of salt compared to 12,000 tonnes the previous year.
