'Racist' Enoch Powell 'should not be celebrated with a blue plaque', say campaigners

Nearly 2,000 people have supported a petition aimed at stopping the erection of a blue plaque for “Rivers of Blood” MP Enoch Powell.
The Birmingham-born Conservative politician could be commemorated in Wolverhampton, the city he represented at Westminster from 1950 to 1974.
A poll in a daily newspaper suggested support for the measure among those who took part.
But now a petition against the proposal – which brands Powell a “racist” – has been launched on website 38 Degrees.
