Q&A with Tony 'Bomber' Brown - West Brom icon reflects on his Baggies career

Tony Brown made his West Bromwich Albion debut 55 years ago this week - scoring the first of his 279 goals in a 2-1 win at Ipswich. In a previous interview with the Birmingham Mail. 'Bomber' sat down and told us all about his Albion career.
Q. What do you recall from your debut?
A. We trained at The Hawthorns on the Fridays before games. After training, Dave Matthews (kit man) came up to me and said I would be playing the next day. I didn't believe him. Then the assistant manager Wilf Dixon told me to go home, get my bag - I was playing at Ipswich. The night before I didn’t sleep a wink.
