Police tell residents to use mobiles for calling 999 due to exchange issue

A telephone exchange issue in north Northumberland has meant residents are being asked to use their mobile phone if they need to call 999.
A Northumbria Police statement issued in the last hour on social media is as follows: ‘The 999 service in the Scottish/English border area across north Northumberland is affected by a telephone exchange outage at this time.
‘Mobile phones will be unaffected by this outage.
‘In an emergency, use your mobile phone and dial 999.’
