Over 60 Canary Islands flights cancelled due to high winds - leaving Britons stranded
 

Thousands of Britons have been stranded abroad on the Canary Islands.
Extreme weather conditions have meant strong gales and heavy rain have battered the islands, with wind speeds reaching up to 70mph.
Spanish Airport Aena warned that over 60 flights had been affected, including “27 flights in Lanzarote, 23 in Tenerife South, 9 in Tenerife North, 1 in Gran Canaria and 1 in La Palma”.
It has recommended that passengers check with the airline before they head to the airport, although many have been stranded overnight due to the weather conditions.
