Nasa Opportunity Mars Rover falls silent as it’s engulfed by deadly dust storm
 

Nasa has lost contact with a Mars exploration robot that’s engulfed in a gigantic dust storm.
The Opportunity Rover has fallen silent and controllers have been unable to reach it.
It’s currently being battered by a storm that has been growing since the end of May and now covers a quarter of the planet.
Controllers expect it will be several more days before there is enough sunlight to recharge Opportunity’s battery through its solar panels.
Only then will we know if it has survived its encounter with the Martian tempest.
