Man spared jail after beating dog with axe
 

A man who claimed to love ‘dogs more than people’ was spared jail despite taking an axe to a defenceless Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
Peter Hillin, 47, claimed he only used the axe handle to strike his dog Neo when it attacked his other Staffie, Santos.
But a vet dealing with Neo’s horrific injuries told a court he believed they were consistent with three or four blows with the sharp end of the axe.
