Labour leadership contender denies calling northern voters ‘stupid’
 

A possible Labour leadership candidate has denied calling voters ‘stupid’, as the party’s post-election inquest descended into infighting.
As the race to succeed Jeremy Corbyn hots up, shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry – who is believed to be eyeing the top job – today accused a defeated colleague of a ‘total and utter lie’.
Former minister Caroline Flint, who lost her seat in the former stronghold of Don Valley during Labour’s catastrophic election defeat, claimed Ms Thornberry had told a colleague: ‘I’m glad my constituents aren’t as stupid as yours.’
