Kirsty Gilmour is virtually booked in for Rio 2016 after leaping up World Badminton Federation rankings
 

Twelve gruelling months of travelling the world paid off last Thursday as Kirsty Gilmour ended the Olympic qualifying race as Great Britain’s highest-ranked women’s singles player.
As she hinted at in last week’s Hamilton Advertiser, Gilmour’s silver medal win at the European Championships lifted her four places to match her second-highest ranking of No.17, having been 14th in September 2014.
It also places the 22-year-old as the second-highest-ranked European player behind twice European and World champion Carolina Marin of Spain, who will bid for a hat-trick of titles of women’s world... read more
