James Vince shows substance to go with style and after being considered one of the most underwhelming picks his Ashes are up and running

When James Vince chipped Yasir Shah to cover at The Oval two summers ago, he had added a duck to a first-innings single and apparently played himself out of Test cricket for good.
At the Gabba he came within 17 runs and some inspired fielding by Nathan Lyon of marking his Ashes debut with a century. And they reckon it’s football that’s the funny old game.
Vince, it’s fair to say, was among the most underwhelming Ashes picks of all time, at least until Australia recalled Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine, who didn’t help his cause when he dropped Vince on 68 off Lyon.
