Italy elections: Sicily vote puts populist Five Star Movement on par with centre-right
 

The anti-establishment group has narrowly won the first round of a vote to govern Ostia, a neighbourhood in Rome.
It will now be set against a centre-right-wing coalition backed by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in a run-off vote.
M5S candidate Giuliana Di Pillo took more than 30 percent of the vote compared with just under 27 percent for Silvio Berlusconi’s candidate Monica Picca.
The ruling centre-left Democratic Party tanked, earning less than 14 percent of the vote.
