Indonesia: 10 arrested for ‘plotting to turn protest to coup’

Huge anti-blasphemy rally cooled by president joining protesters for prayers
INDONESIAN police arrested 10 suspects yesterday for allegedly plotting to turn a huge protest in the capital Jakarta into a coup.
The 200,000-strong rally calling for the city governor’s arrest on blasphemy charges dispersed peacefully after President Joko Widodo unexpectedly joined them for Muslim prayers at the national monument.
Police made the arrests at the suspects’ homes and a hotel yesterday before the protest began, saying they had stepped up their investigation of the group over the past three weeks.... read more
