Britain's banks will be urged by the Government to introduce a new portfolio of 'vanilla' savings products next week as part of efforts to restore public trust in the embattled industry.
I have learned that a nine-month review headed by a former Lloyds Banking Group executive will recommend the launch of two no-frills deposit accounts that will be marketed by the major high street lenders as alternatives to their existing products.
