The comedian Bill Hicks had a phrase to describe the extent of his drug intake. 'No more,' he would say, 'than the average touring funk band.' Trevor Bayliss, coach of England's cricketers, had a Hicks moment, addressing the issue of a drinking culture inside his squad; except in his mind, he wasn't joking.
