Dog which attacked girl in Derby spared death sentence



A woman has been told to muzzle her dog in public after it attacked a young girl in Derby.
Carrie Ann Handscomb-Heldreich's Black Shar Pei escaped from her home and bit a child.
Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court heard how the victim was bitten on her chest, but has now fully recovered.
District Judge Jonathan Taaffe, who presided over the case, said the 34-year-old was "not an irresponsible" dog owner and decided to fine her.
A contingent destruction order was also placed on the dog, meaning it would not be put down if specific conditions were adhered to.
