'Doctor missed deadly infection for dehydration and told me to take paracetamol instead'

A man who developed a life-threatening condition after an out-of-hours doctor failed to spot a potentially deadly infection has been awarded £18,000 in damages.
The 47-year-old patient - who does not want to be named - was advised to visit Westbourne NHS Centre in Westbourne Avenue, west Hull, after calling 111 because he was suffering from increasingly worsening headaches, shivers, and was in pain when urinating.
However, instead of spotting the urinary infection, the doctor told him he had mild dehydration and sent him home, telling him to take paracetamol and ibuprofen.
