Derby taxi fares increase for all yellow cabs



Taxi fares for yellow cabs in Derby have increased - the first rise since 2008.
The price hike means the initial hiring charge has gone up from £2 to £2.40. A new tariff of £4.40 has been introduced for taxis carrying five or more passengers.
Derby City Council’s licensing committee approved the increase and the decision was met with cheers from dozens of drivers sat in the public gallery.
Labour councillor Paul Hezelgrave said he believed the request was "reasonable" due to inflation and the rising cost of fuel.
