Darren Clarke takes an early hit at the Ryder Cup as European disarray gives USA chance to dominate

The 41st Ryder Cup begins on Friday with Team Europe in a state of some disarray. Captain Darren Clarke’s planning went out of the window when Danny Willett turned up for practice on Thursday and was plainly in no fit state to take his allotted slot in Friday morning’s opening round of foursomes.
Belgian rookie Thomas Pieters will take his place and partner Lee Westwood in the anchor match. They’re up against Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar in a game the two Americans will now look upon with a great deal of relish.
