Benefit cap prices out thousands of poorer families

A NEW benefits cap coming into force next week could leave 320,000 children destitute and homeless, housing experts warned yesterday.
Around 116,000 lower-income households face the prospect of being priced out and evicted from their homes when the benefit cap — introduced by Tory former chancellor George Osborne — is enforced, the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) said.
The cap is still coming into effect from November 7 even though successor Philip Hammond has since dropped specific targets for reducing the deficit, which was Mr Osborne’s original claimed goal.
