Arjen Robben reveals he was ready to join Manchester United after dinner date with Sir Alex Ferguson: 'If they'd offered me a deal I would have signed'

Arjen Robben has revealed he was ready to sign for Manchester United after he was wooed by then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson over dinner before eventually joining Chelsea.
The Dutchman was one of Europe's hottest prospects back in 2004 and was wanted by a host of elite clubs. Ferguson, however, stole a march on other suitors by inviting him to Manchester.
Robben says he was given a tour of Manchester United's facilities and was ready to sign a deal, but claims they then failed to make a concrete offer. Tired of waiting, the winger jumped at the chance to join Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.
