And you thought today's pavements were bad! Check out this city centre photo from 1971

You'd be forgiven for thinking that this was some back street of Leicester which had fallen way short of some TLC offered by the city council.
Or perhaps some temporary buildings hastily erected to house refugees?
It is, in fact, a main thoroughfare in the city.
This photograph was taken in August 1971, close to the junction of Charles Street and London Road – the traffic lights can be seen.
The huts were temporary structures for the men working on a skyscraper – which went on to be painted blue.
