Ancient dog-sized rat with huge fangs dug up along with dozens of its babies
 

The remains of a giant egg-laying rat with huge fangs that roamed Earth 184 million years ago has been discovered along with more than three dozen of its babies.
The find is extra-special because it’s unusual to find well-preserved infants, which are more likely to have been destroyed or eaten after their death.
The beast looked like a large rodent and, at over a foot long, was as big as a beagle.
It’s among the ‘rarest of the rare’ because it contains the only known fossils of babies from any mammal relative, said the researchers at The University of Texas at Austin.
