Yorkshire beats Colombia and summer wobble to host 2019 world championships



Yorkshire resisted a strong late challenge from Colombia and a mid-summer wobble over funding to win the right to host cycling's road world championships in 2019.
With 12 races over a nine-day programme, the event is backed by £27million of public money, including a £15million investment in cycling facilities around the country.
Yorkshire's pitch to world governing body the UCI was based on its successful hosting of the 2014 Grand Depart of the Tour de France and the two subsequent editions of that event's legacy race, the Tour de Yorkshire.
