Yom Kippur – the holiest day of the year for Jewish people – starts tonight (Tuesday 11 October) at sundown. Sometimes called the Day of Atonement it’s a really important day in the Jewish religion and gives Jews the chance to ask forgiveness for their sins over the last year and resolve to do better in the year that’s coming.
Yom Kippur typically takes place in September or October each year, although the date changes annually. It always takes place on the tenth day of the Jewish new year (Rosh Hashanah).
