Xavi defends Gerard Pique after retirement announcement and shirt-sleeve controversy: 'I find this whole debate absurd. It's embarrassing'

As one of Gerard Pique's former team-mates at both club and international level, Xavi has unsurprisingly backed the defender in the wake of his latest controversy. 
Pique has announced he will quit international duty with Spain after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the 29-year-old embroiled in a row after being accused of cutting the sleeves of his Spain jersey to remove the national flag in his team's win over Albania. 
A proud Catalan, Pique has nonetheless denied his cutting of his shirt had any hidden meaning but maintains the next World Cup will be his last.
