Wirral head of child services refuses to resign after damning watchdog report
 

Wirral council’s head of children’s services resisted calls from political opponents for his resignation at a meeting of the borough’s full council tonight.
It follows Wirral’s children’s services being branded “inadequate” after an inspection by Ofsted during the summer.
The watchdog found failings across the board and has ordered improvements to be made “urgently”.
Tonight opposition councillors called for the cabinet member responsible for the service, Cllr Tony Smith, to resign.
