Widow who stayed at her husband's bedside in hospital inspires new end-of-life care scheme
 

The widow of a “true gentleman” who stayed at her husband’s bedside as he succumbed to leukaemia has vowed to help others facing the same ordeal.
Carole Stiff, 78, said James Cook University Hospital’s staff were “more like family than complete strangers”, supporting and comforting her at the same time as looking after her beloved Harry.
Harry passed away on April 28, aged 85, after a brave, six-year battle with leukaemia.
Five months on, Carole, alongside the palliative care team, has launched a new scheme to aid relatives who wish to stay by their loved one’s bedside.
