Sajean Geer, 71, and her pet dog Yoda, were left helpless after she became disorientated while spreading her husband's ashes and got lost in a forest that is home to dangerous predators including bears and cougars.
The forest – the Olympic National Park, Washington – was one of her husband's favourite hiking destinations.
Wearing just a Hawaiian shirt and capri pants, the experienced hiker has revealed how she survived by following tips she read in an outdoor survival book.
