Why will Scotswood Bridge be closed to cars, buses and lorries on Sunday?
 

Scotswood Bridge will be shut on Sunday to motorists so essential maintenance work can be carried out.
Motorists will be diverted via the A1 while the work takes place.
The annual closure of the bridge linking Scotswood Road to Blaydon will allow workmen to clean gullies and expansion joints, and inspect and repair the road’s lighting.
The bridge will be closed to vehicles in both directions between 6am and 6pm as flying debris is expected from the use of high pressure water jets.
Despite this, cyclists and pedestrians are going to be allowed to cross the bridge.
