It was predictable. So very predictable.
The gunshots had barely stopped ringing out along the Las Vegas strip before people started speculating about shooter Stephen Paddock’s motive.
And top of the list was that he was mentally ill.
When an atrocity like this unfolds, we all want reassurance that it would never happen to us – and that means making the perpetrator out to be some kind of monster.
Mad, mentally disturbed, a crackpot.
The implication is clear: Mentally ill people are bad, scary, unpredictable, violent, bloodthirsty, irrational and downright dangerous.
