Why vinyl is set for comeback at HMV: Retailer expects to sell 1.5m records this year thanks to acts like Ed Sheeran

HMV is expecting a surge in vinyl sales in the run-up to Christmas as the format continues its revival.
Demand for records peaked in the 1980s but began to fall in the face of competition, first from tapes, then CDs and eventually the internet.
But while previous competitors have withered on the vine thanks to digital streaming gobbling up market share, vinyl is becoming increasingly popular. 
HMV is expecting sales of 1.5m records this year – a result last seen three decades ago.
