Why has the A1 in Northumberland been at a standstill today? And is it ok now?

Drivers came to a standstill on the A1 as firefighters rescued a man from his crashed car.
The single-vehicle crash happened on the southbound carriageway just after Stannington in Northumberland at around 10.45am on Sunday.
The road was blocked off while emergency services arrived at the scene but one lane was reopened at 11.30am.
A man, believed to be in his 40s, was trapped inside his vehicle.
Firefighters from West Hartford station, with help from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service , had to cut into the car to reach the man who had become trapped inside.
