Certain fish may have distinctive regional accents, according to some scientists who are conducting research into their speech patterns.
Experts are attempting to discover whether cod moving north as a result of climate change will be able to understand the accents of other fish after they re-locate.
Just like their human counterparts, fish may develop distinct dialects depending on the area in which they habituate, say experts.
Researchers have used underwater microphones to compare the "chatter" of fish in different regions.
