It happens in bars and pubs across Merseyside every weekend but few people realise that buying a pint for a friend could lead to a hefty fine.
A little known law states it is illegal to buy alcohol for someone who is clearly drunk - meaning you could end up paying for the most expensive round of drinks you’ve ever bought.
The law is part of the 2003 Licensing Act, which also says it is illegal for bar staff to serve someone who is clearly drunk.
