Why baby talk is GOOD for children: Speaking 'motherese' helps them develop language skills much faster

Some people consider baby talk to be incredibly annoying, and many believe it can even be harmful to a child's development.
But research has shown speaking slowly in a childish voice is in fact beneficial to children's development.
Scientists claim it kick-starts their learning of language.
Now Dr Catherine Laing, a researcher in psychology and neuroscience at Duke University, explains how baby talk helps children start to learn language, in an article for The Conversation.
