Much of the Western world celebrates New Year’s Eve on December 31 in the countdown to the start of the new year on January 1.
But that’s not the case for other cultures and religions.
Chinese New Year comes between mid-January and mid-February - with celebrations including a colourful street festival in Birmingham’s Chinatown every year - while Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) is on October 3 in 2016.
Muslims will also soon be marking their own Islamic New Year.
