Wheelie bins across Newcastle to be axed in a bid to save cash
 

Residents in litter-hit areas have hit out at plans to introduce massive “communal bins”.
As part of Newcastle City Council’s effort to save £30m in the next year individual domestic green waste and blue recycling bins are to be replaced with new communal bins.
The roll-out will take place over a 12-week period, where 1,100 communal bins will be introduced in back lanes to store the refuse for 2,303 households across 30-streets in the the city.
